OFFERED AND PROMOTION REQUIREMENTS
Grade R
A Grade R learner shall be promoted if:
~ A
Learner has undergone a school readiness test and the school's inclusion committee has determined that the child is sufficiently equipped to advance to Grade 1.
Grade 1 ~ 3
A Grade 1 – 3 learner pass
shall be issued if a learner obtains:
~ A
rating code of 3 (three) for the Literacy and Numeracy programmes and the school's inclusion committee has determined that it is in the child's best interest to be promoted.
Grade 4 ~ 6
A Grade 4 – 6 pass shall be issued to a Learner who
has complied with the following requirements in not fewer than nine (9)
learning areas:
~ 50%
(level 3) in English
~ 50%
(level 3) in Mathematics
~ 50%
(level 3) in one learning area other than English and Mathematics
~ 35%
(level 2) in the remaining learning areas
Grade 7 ~ 9
Learning Areas/Subjects:
~ English as Home
Language
~ Afrikaans as
First Additional Language
~ Mathematics
~ Technology
~ Life Orientation ~ Social Science - This learning area covers History and Geography ~ Natural Science - This learning area covers Life Sciences and Physical Science ~ Arts and Culture - This learning area covers Art, Music and Drama ~ Economic Management Science - This learning area covers Business Studies and Accounting
Requirements
to pass Grade 7 ~ 9
A Grade 7 - 9 pass shall be issued to a Learner who
has complied with the following requirements in not fewer than nine (9)
learning areas:
~ Obtained at
least 50% in English.
~ Obtained at
least 50% in two (2) learning areas other than English.
~ Obtained at
least 40% in Mathematics.
~ Obtained at
least 40% in two (2) learning areas other than English and Mathematics.
Grade 10 ~ 12
Core subjects:
~ English as Home
Language
~ Afrikaans as
First Additional Language
~ Mathematics or
Mathematical Literacy
~ Life Orientation
Electives:
~ One of the following:
Geography; Accounting; Art ~ Two of the
following: Physical Science; Life Sciences; History Business Studies.
Entry requirements:
We have entry requirements
for the following subjects:
~ Mathematics - a minimum of 55% in Grade 9 in
Mathematics
~ Accounting - a minimum of 55% in Grade 9 in Mathematics and 60% promotion mark in EMS
~ Physical Science - a minimum of 55% in Grade 9 in Mathematics and 60% promotion mark in NS
Requirements
to pass Grade 10 ~ 12
A Grade 10 - 12 pass shall be issued to a Learner who
has complied with the following requirements in not fewer than seven (7)
learning areas:
~ Obtained at
least 40% in English Home Language.
~ Obtained at
least 40% in two (2) other learning areas
~ Obtained at
least 30% in three (3) other learning areas. ~ No more than 1 learning area with less than 30%..
Requirements
for tertiary studies
A learner can achieve a
National Senior Certificate on one of three levels for entry into tertiary
studies, namely:
a) Higher Certificate
b) Diploma
c) Degree studies
To pass the NSC with entry
to Higher Certificate study you need to achieve at least:
~ 40% in English
~ 40% in any TWO
(2) other subjects.
~ 30% in TWO (2)
additional subjects.
To pass the NSC with entry
to diploma study you need to achieve at least:
~ 40% in English
~ 40% in THREE (3)
other subjects. (Excluding Life Orientation)
~ 30% in Afrikaans
First Additional Language.
~ 30% in TWO (2) other
subjects.
To pass the NSC with entry
to degree studies you need to achieve at least:
~ 40% in English
~ 50% in FOUR (4)
of the following subjects: Accounting; Business Studies; Geography; History;
Life Sciences; Mathematics; Mathematical Literacy; Physical Science and Visual
Arts.
~ 30% in Afrikaans
First Additional Language.
~ 30% in Life
Orientation.
If a learner achieves 50% in
the language of learning and teaching of the higher education institution,
he/she may achieve 30% in one of the listed subjects in which a 50% is
required.
